Today was the end of a lovely three day weekend. We enjoyed lots of family time and even celebrated Grandpa’s 95th birthday! By dinnertime, however, this Mama was getting tired. Mark got called back into work, kids were fussy, and house was messy, yet again, even though I’m pretty sure I spent most of the day cleaning it. Our tween daughter is just finishing her first quarter as a middle schooler at her new school and had several projects she needed to complete over the weekend. We are trying to be sensitive as she is still adjusting to the pace of school and the demands of homework, but today I pushed her to stay focused and complete her tasks, then cleanup the pieces
strewn left behind. (As a side note, a good friend reminded me that God cares about building character, not just learning academics, and I have been clinging to that as we adjust her to her new life… any thoughts?)
As I signed off on her homework, I slipped a note of encouragement in, reminding her how proud we are of her and the verse that keeps coming to mind, Galatians 6:9 NLT: “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Such a truth when it comes to parenthood, to mothering, to persevering day by day.
So friends out there, keep up the good work; your labor is not in vain. The Lord sees and will bless you. Keep loving, keep teaching, keep vacuuming, keep changing diapers, keep making dinner & doing dishes, keep raising those beautiful families. Know that the Lord is good!
